Johannesburg – 03 December 2015, Nedbank Group was acknowledged by The Banker Magazine and Financial Times as the 2015 Bank of the Year for Africa and South Africa. This is the first time Nedbank has been named the Bank of the Year for Africa while it is the fourth time Nedbank has received the award for Bank of the Year in South Africa after receiving the award in 2011, 2013 and 2014.
The awards are a vote of confidence in the execution of Nedbank’s strategy and demonstrates the bank’s ability to partner with clients wanting to expand their operations either in South Africa or into the rest of Africa.
‘Nedbank’s strategy for the continent is to build a Pan-African banking network through investment in our existing subsidiaries and exploring acquisition opportunities in SADC and East Africa and leveraging our strategic alliance with Ecobank, in Central and West Africa,’ says Nedbank Chief Executive, Mike Brown.
‘Through our longstanding alliance with Ecobank focussing on Central and West Africa and our own presence in six countries in the South African Development Community (SADC) and East Africa,  we continue to work towards contributing to Africa’s economic development and promoting financial inclusion – assisting in realising Nedbank’s objective of building a world-class Pan-African banking network,’ adds Brown.
‘We are honoured by this recognition as it demonstrates our commitment to be Africa’s most admired bank,’ concludes Brown.
The Bank of the Year Awards, pioneered by leading global banking publication The Banker, a member of the Financial Times company, celebrate and honour banks across the globe for their strong financial performance as well as their wide range of initiatives designed to reward and promote industry excellence in the global banking community.
ENDS.
